Thank you for your interest in KD Academy’s 2025 Musical Theatre Experience of Annie at The Maltings, Ely! KD Academy has become a trusted name across East Anglia, offering outstanding performing arts opportunities that inspire and empower young people. This year alone, over 250 young performers have taken part in our training and performances, and we’re thrilled to bring the excitement of Annie to life in 2025.
Our Musical Theatre Experience invites young people from across the East of England to work directly with industry professionals to create a full-scale musical production. Participants will be immersed in every aspect of theatre-making, from rehearsals and costume fittings to technical and dress rehearsals, culminating in an unforgettable show weekend in a professional venue.
Alongside gaining hands-on experience, participants will forge lifelong friendships, boost their confidence, and create memories that will last a lifetime. In this information pack, you’ll find everything you need to know about KD Academy, the production of Annie, program costs, and a provisional rehearsal schedule.
WHAT IS “ANNIE” ALL ABOUT?
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations… and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Auditions Call!
SIGN UP FOR OUR JACK & THE BEANSTALK YOUNG CAST AUDITIONS
Calling all KD Academy students who would like to audition for this year professionalpantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, at the Maltings, Ely.
This is an EXCLUSIVE opportunity for KD Academy students, and not open to the public.This years production of Jack an the Beanstalk will be made up of a professional cast and 4 groups of children’s casts of between 6-8 young people.
The children casts will rotate performances throughout the run of the production. This is a chance to perform in front of thousands of people – an amazing experience they won’t want to miss. This year we are looking for ‘KD ACADEMY’ students from Ely Friday, Ely Saturday, Histon & Impington, and Soham Saturday academies. To audition, please read through all the information contained in this pack and then fill in the online form to register your child’s interest.
Auditions will take place at the Ross Peers Sports Centre on Saturday the 28th of June 2025 at the following times:
- 2pm to 330pm for Junior dance auditions (ages 9-11)
- 330pm to 5pm for Junior dance auditions (ages 12-117
